Positive Behavior Supports

Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) is a program we have embraced. We know that problem behavior exists in every school, varies in intensity, effects both teaching and learning, and remains a concern for parents, teachers, and students.

In this program, expectations for student behavior are defined through three main rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible (The Three Bs). In each area of the school (classroom, hall, restroom, lunch room, gym, on the bus, and at activities) these three concepts are addressed and we show students exactly what our expectations are.

As part of this program, we will try to give each student five positive interactions for every one negative. When we see individual students showing the proper behavior, we will give them a "Honey Bee Card", telling them what positive behavior we observed. In return, the student can put their card in the "Bee Hive." Each Friday, we draw names out of the Bee Hives, and those winners get to pick a prize. At the end of each month we also draw for monthly prizes, and will do the same at the end of each semester. For 5th and 6th graders, they will be able to use a PBS activity card. Once the card receives all the punch-outs, the student will be able to pick a prize from McDonalds, Burger King, or the Peetz Perks.
