BEST GRANT AWARD

Superintendent Jeff Durbin and Principal Mike Forster presented the project via zoom to the BEST board in mid-May. Mr. Forster used “One Piece At A Time” by Johnny Cash to tell the tale of or old school building.

The original part of our school was constructed in 1944 and has had additions and renovations many times over the years, but with each one comes issues. The BEST board fully funded the grant application amount, and Peetz was one of the highest funded amounts in all 64 applications. We appreciate the board recognizing the importance of a new facility for our student's education and safety.

The grant award will only fund about 2/3rds of the total project and is contingent upon the November 2022 Bond Election.  The school will seek a bond in November to fund the remaining 1/3 of the total cost of the building project.

Final approval of the grant awards will take place in early June when the Colorado Department of Education votes on it.

  • The competition was fierce! The board awarded $$96,163,745.18  for 40 projects in the state, and Peetz is #19 on the list.
  • Our project was one of the highest percentages awarded for the total project cost (2/3rds - award/total project)
  • Peetz School building was the oldest building discussed in any applications made this grant cycle
