It may have taken Peetz boys basketball eight tries, but the Bulldogs were finally able to pull out two wins this season.

That was nearly three weeks ago, in a 41-28 campaign over Weldon Valley, and the Bulldogs have found even more success since then. Throughout the first week of February, the Buffaloes added two more wins to their resume, first in a thriller over Caliche and then in a slightly less exciting campaign over Creek Valley.

The Caliche game, which took place on Feb. 1, was a nail-biter from start to finish. The teams matched each other’s effort through the first eight minutes of play as each came out with 14 points before the start of the second quarter. Caliche took the tiniest of advantages by halftime with a 28-27 score, only to see the Bulldogs match its effort in the third frame with 13 points apiece.

The Bulldogs needed only two score two more points on top of the Buffaloes’ efforts, and that’s exactly what they did. Peetz managed 12 points to the Buffs’ 10 in the final quarter to just barely edge out its foe with a 52-51 final. Sophomore Noah Naegele and sophomore Aiden Hill exploded offensively to take care of the majority of the offense as Naegele netted 23 points and Hill followed him up with 15 more.

Four days later, the Bulldogs did it again against a Nebraska team in Creek Valley. This time, however, the outcome wasn’t nearly as exciting as the Bulldogs took control from the beginning and never relinquished it.

Peetz took the 17-11 edge at the end of the first quarter, only to see that advantage grow to 29-19 at the midway break. The Storm matched their efforts with seven points apiece in the third quarter, but couldn’t keep up the intensity that the Bulldogs set throughout the first half. They slightly outplayed Peetz in the fourth frame, but their comeback efforts fell short as the Bulldogs walked away with a 44-36 win.

Once again, Naegele shined with 25 points.

The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to Otis on Thursday night for a home matchup that’s set to start at 5:30 p.m.
