With the state track and field meet about a month away, high school athletes all over Colorado are fine-tuning their techniques, looking to drop times and improve their overall performances in the hopes of a state qualification.

Peetz enjoyed a promising performance from sophomore Suvaun Cook at the Bronco Stampede, which was hosted by Platte Valley, over the weekend. The sophomore led a small contingent of Bulldogs by winning the triple jump — in which she landed at 33 feet, 7 inches — then placing second in the long jump at 15–4.5. Cook lost out on the crown in the latter event by 0.5 inches to Yuma’s Daphani Allen.

Most of Peetz’ performances on Saturday came from the ladies. Cook stretched her legs in the 100-meter dash, placing eighth at 14.19 seconds in a field of 39, and was complemented by freshman Nataleigh Kalb, who trailed just a bit behind at 13th (14.46). Kalb then tested the waters in the 200, where she placed 17th with a time of 30.63.

Junior Ashlyn Schmidt then placed 28th in the 400, which she achieved by clocking in at 1 minute, 25.13 seconds, then tried her luck in the long jump for 31st (10–3.25). She extended her versatility with 26th in the shot put, which she attained by hurling the shot to 22–10.25.

Freshman Janda Ommen extended the podium streak for the Bulldogs with 10th in the 800 thanks to her performance of 2:53.34. She supplemented that with fifth in the 3,200, crossing the finish line in 13:51.67.

Freshman Lily Howell sped to 18th in the 100 hurdles at 22.32 seconds, then improved that mark slightly by claiming 16th in the 300 hurdles (1:02.65). Freshman Lily Howell kept the train rolling into the discus event, where she earned 25th with her throw of 60–9. Freshman Kadence Roberts, in the same event, took home 32nd (42–9) before securing 31st in the shot put (18–9).

The boys saw far fewer candidates. Junior Korbin Segelke and junior Dylan Vallier placed 33rd and 35th in the 100, respectively, thanks to times of 14.30 and 14.35. Vallier doubled up with 28th in the 400 (1:06.84), while Segelke took his chances in the discus by tossing the disc 79–3, which was good for 29th. Segelke rounded out the Bulldogs’ day with 18th in the shot put (32–9).
