Kelly Barrett and Penny Carver

2023 For Peetz Sake Parade Marshals

The 2023 For Peetz Sake Parade Marshals are Penny P. Carver and Kelly Barrett.  These two ladies have been part of the Peetz community for many years and have enjoyed raising their families in a community that has accepted them as one of their own.

Penny Taylor was born in Sheridan, WY.  She later moved to the Denver area where she met her future husband, Randy Carver, at Clarence Carver’s (Randy’s dad) gas station.  A year later Randy and Penny were at the same gas station by the gumball machine where Randy proposed to Penny.  **She promises that it was a real ring and not from the gumball machine**!    From Denver Randy and Penny moved to Wray, CO.  Then Penny’s father-in-law, Clarence, won the lotto and purchased Martha Segelke’s house in Peetz.  After visiting with some new friends, Bill and Mo Sheldon, Clarence found out that they were selling their house in Peetz.  This is how Randy and Penny found themselves and their family living in a new community with new friends.  Penny and Randy had four children, Bryan, Rhonda, Brad, and Ben.  They were blessed with 6 grandchildren (Austin, Trish, Breadon, Jay, Evan, and Keegan), 2 great-grandchildren (Taylor and Mason), and one great-grandchild on the way.  Penny got to know this community better while working at the school washing dishes in the cafeteria.  Penny also worked at the Hot Spot and the Peetz Co-op.  Randy volunteered his free time serving as fire chief and working on the sheriff’s posse.  Randy passed on April 14, 2001.   Penny and Randy enjoyed 32 years of marriage.  Penny says that she enjoys living in a community that enjoys getting together and spending time with friends.  “God bless the Peetz Lions Club for everything they do for this community.”  Penny is excited and appreciative to be one of the Peetz Sake marshals this year.

Kelly Norton grew up in Longmont, CO.  She met her future husband, Larry Barrett, in a dance hall in North Glenn, CO.  A year later, Kelly and Larry were married.  1985 the Barrett’s moved to Parker, KS where they started their family with two boys, Cody and Caleb.  In 1994 Kelly’s dad, Nick, asked them to move into Grandpa Norton’s house and farm the family land.  Kelly had a job working in the library at the Peetz school.  In 1996 Kelly and Larry welcomed their third son, Casey, to the family.  With a new little one, Kelly decided to stay at home and start a home day care business.  As the boys grew older, Kelly kept busy working in Peetz.  She has worked at the Hot Spot, the wind towers, and back at the school as a secretary.  She is also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 134.  Larry worked for Logan County as one of the local road maintainer operators.  Like Penny, Kelly lost her husband, Larry, in December 2022.  The following July would have been their 40th wedding anniversary.  Kelly said that Peetz is a community that is there for each other when needed.  It is small enough that you can enjoy throwing horseshoes with your friends.  She enjoys having her boys and their families close to home.  Kelly has 4 grandchildren, Christina, Brighton, Baylor, and one on the way!  Kelly is very honored and happy to be a parade marshal with her best friend, Penny.

Congratulations girls!
