Peetz didn’t waste any time earning its first win of the season. The Bulldogs didn’t leave anything to the imagination in their 51-0 battering of Kiowa.

The Bulldogs proved a bit more versatile in their debut, as senior quarterback Chance Segelke threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore Rhyder Bayne stepped up to pass for 56 yards with his own touchdown. Senior Noah Naegele led on the receiving end with 80 yards and two touchdowns as senior Aiden Hill added another 51 yards. Senior Nicoli Serkiz accounted for the other receiving score.

Bayne, meanwhile, got the ball rolling on the ground game as he accumulated another 116 yards and netted two more touchdowns. Hill, likewise, added 52 more yards and his own score. Bayne intercepted a ball and returned it for 40 yards for a TD as Segelke (25 interception yards), Serkiz (15 yards, touchdown) and freshman Tanner Wood (1 yard) all got in on the thieving action.

Senior Joe Fehringer led the way on defense with 10 tackles, but Naegele, Segelke and Hill didn’t lag too far behind with nine apiece.

The Bulldogs will now return home to face off with Cheyenne Wells on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Tigers come off of a 65-16 loss to the ever-formidable Stratton. (The article is incorrect, Peetz plays Prairie not Cheyenne Wells)

Caliche volleyball earns a couple of early wins

Caliche volleyball certainly had its fair share of ups and downs during the first full week of its season.

While suffering losses to the likes of Class 1A’s No. 3 Haxtun, No. 7 Fleming and 2A’s No. 9 Holyoke (per MaxPreps), the Buffaloes found ways to win against Lone Star and Arickaree. Against Lone Star, they staved off a Longhorn comeback as they went 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 20-25 and 15-11.

Arickaree, likewise, took it all the way down to the wire as the Bison got a win on the board first with a 25-23 score, then surrendered the next two frames to the Buffs with 25-16 and 25-19 decisions. The Bison then won set four at 25-15 before losing out on the fifth — by the thinnest margin possible — at 15-13.

Caliche, now 2-3, will hit the road to Elbert on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
