Peetz boys basketball has found ways to win through a tough 2022-23 schedule, and the Bulldogs picked up a couple more victories in the last few weeks.

First, they hosted a Prairie team that has also struggled to compete with some of the area’s tougher competition, and the two squads took that late-January game all the way down to the wire.

The Bulldogs began the 46-43 win with a slight advantage in the first quarter, then found themselves playing catch-up after the Mustangs outscored them 14-8 in the second frame. The Bulldogs regrouped at the half, then came out firing on all cylinders to net 19 points to Prairie’s nine. That surge turned the tides in their favor, once and for all, and allowed them to stave off a late Prairie comeback to walk away with their fourth victory.

Freshman Rhyder Bayne led his team with 19 points, but junior Noah Naegele collected a double-double by netting 13 points and nabbing 10 rebounds. Junior Chance Segelke rounded out the team’s top effort with another 11 points.

On Saturday, Peetz logged another tick mark in the win column when it traveled across state lines to Creek Valley. Once again, one big quarter from the Bulldogs sealed the deal in the 60-43 victory.

The Bulldogs began their morning with the tiniest of advantages to lead the Storm 12-11 after the first eight minutes of play. They knocked off whatever rust may have hindered them in the first quarter to come alive in the second, outscoring the Storm 21-11 to take a nice 33-22 cushion at the midway point.

The Storm attempted a comeback in the third quarter, but fell short in the final frame as the Bulldogs put them away once and for all. This time around, Segelke took the lead with 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Naegele and Bayne backed him up with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Peetz, now 5-10, has a tough test on Thursday when it travels to Otis.
